Political Activism

In an effort to focus the Seymour Republican Town Committee’s (SRTC) political action activities – our “grassroots” – we are solidifying and strengthening this resource.  In order for the SRTC’s grassroots efforts to be even more successful in the community, some combination of quantity and quality are necessary.  The SRTC has a reputation around the state for strong political pro-activism, but we can’t rest on our laurels.  There is always room for improvement; and we need your involvement.

You can assist by getting involved with any of the following:

•     Attend the monthly SRTC meetings.
•     Campaign fundraisers:  Attend the locally sponsored events.  If this is not possible, consider mailing in a donation.
•     Yard signs:  Place a yard sign on your lawn.  Contact other people whom you know and ask if they would be willing to display a sign.
•     Letters-to-the-Editor:  Write a brief letter in support of the candidate(s).
•     Opinion editorial:  Draft opinion editorials for the candidate on topics important to the community.
•     Debates and public forums:  Attend the debates/public forums in support of the candidate.
•     Canvas your neighborhood:  Distribute literature to your neighbors.  Invite the candidate to join you as you walk the neighborhood.
•     Meet and greets:  Sponsor a social gathering at your home inviting your neighbors to meet the candidate.
•     Sign waving:  Be willing to contribute a few hours on specially designated dates/times to wave signs in support of the candidate.
•     Telephone messaging:  Change the message on your answering machine to a short narrative in support of the candidate.
•     Telephone calls:  Be willing to make calls to neighbors and friends.
•     Postcards:  Be willing to send a short message to neighbors and friends.
•     Questionnaires:  Be willing to share your expertise and assist the candidate in completing questionnaires sent from special interest groups.
•     Presence on Election Day:  Be willing to work, even if it is only a few hours, at the polling stations.
